95 Prince Philip gaffes in 95 years

The Duke of Edinburgh will attend his final public engagement before he retires from public duty.

Prince Phillip, the longest-serving consort in British history, announced he would be stepping down from public life in May.

The 96-year-old, who has accomplished 22,219 solo engagements since 1952, will meet Royal Marines who have just taken part in a gargantuan 1,664-mile trek in Buckingham Palace on Wednesday.

He will attend a parade at the palace to mark the finale of the Royal Marines 1664 Global Challenge - a series of strength and endurance challenge raising money for charity.

Prince Phillip, who has spent 65 years both supporting the Queen as head of state and attending events for his own organisations and charities, has continued to be vociferously active in public life since becoming a nonagenarian.

But these appearances have not been devoid of controversy. Over the years, the king of the clangers has developed something of a reputation for being one of the most gaffe and solecism prone members of the Royal Family.
